I realize that when you work, especially in cubbies, you are subject to the vagaries of your "neighbors" sounds. Most really don't bother me. Except for one. (And in my defense, I'm not the only one annoyed by this).

There's a gal in our office who has this laugh that defies description, and she laughs better than 50% of the day. Now our work is not necessarily "happy" work, and is surely not laugh-worthy. Yet she finds something that hits her funny bone the better part of the day. And it's not an infectious laugh - it's the kind of laugh that makes you want to duck your head under a rock.

Just had to vent.

...and she's still at it.

There was a guy today at work with a squeaky chair. There are three free chairs available right next to his desk, and he picks the squeaky one. Then he moves around a whole bunch all day long. I watched him in my mirror moving around his desk, pinning stuff to his wall. I had to leave early. I couldn't deal.

The laugh is probably worse... at least I can hide his chair when he goes to lunch.

One of the good things about my current job is that we can and do wear headphones and listen to music, and thus are protected from hearing our neighbor's noises, and also from them hearing ours, haha.

There's a girl in the art department who's laugh resonates throughout the entire building. And it's SOOOO annoying.

It's less annoying once I found out she has some sort of muscular disability and has finally gotten well enough to just walk around with a cane. So every time her laugh gets too annoying, I start feeling guilty for wanting to just go over and duct tape her mouth.

She's a very nice girl otherwise. It's just her laugh... OMG...

Duct tape her mouth? Good idea. I was trying to think of some sort of powder or fairy dust that would give her a coughing fit, to dust her with when she laughs, but duct tape is good, too.

There was this girl at school who used to sneeze REALLY loudly. You know when people are actually very vocal with their sneezes? She'd scream "ACHOOO!" as she sneezed. I'm not convinced she didn't do it on purpose because it seems pretty weird that anyone could sneeze that loudly without any effort. It was painful to listen to.

My brother used to like a girl who had a really annoying laugh as well. They'd be upstairs and she was the only one I could always hear (out of him and his other mates). Not only that but she was actually downright rude, really. Firstly I'd never make that much noise in someone's house (partly so as to not draw attention to myself and partly just because I've been brought up with manners!). Secondly, I once I went upstairs where three of them were messing about on the landing putting a nappy on a fourth one. I asked them to keep the noise down as my mum was asleep in her room. My brother agreed to keep it down and I thought that would be that but the rude little tw*t let out another loud, and silly, laugh!

By silly I mean the typical attention seeking sixteen year old prat of a girl laugh. I can't stand girls that are prats - they give the rest of us a bad name!

I know exactly the sort of person you mean, Benji. The sort you wish you could use duct tape to quiet them down. It's almost like they don't acknowledge the other people around them as people, and think only of themselves.

Drag her to the court as "exhibit A", force her to laugh, and you're home free.

Texas is the home of duct tape...

I think she does it on purpose - her cubbie is in an out of the way place and I think she wants us to remember she's there or something. She's laughing as I type, I want to pull off my ears!

And you know, we get TONS of time off here as state employees, you'd think she'd take just ONE lousy day!!

Here's hoping for a round of laryngitis in the office.

Nice to know I'm not suffering alone.

Duct tape does sound like a reasonable alternative. Right there with invading her cubicle, waving the axe and screaming madly. This is a family-oriented site so I cannot reproduce here what to scream but I'm sure you get the idea.

You could tell her, "Silence is golden, duct tape is silver."

I wonder if she would get it?
