SomethingElse wrote:So far, my tattoo has a violin, pipe, magnifying glass, books (with 221B printed on one of them, because that's where they live), and some chemistry lab bottles with smoke billowing out of them (I wanted to be able to add in some colour, because many of the elements will be quite brown, otherwise).

I'm not decided yet on whether I want to include a deerstalker. It's often commented on that a deerstalker wasn't actually mentioned in the books and thus wasn't worn by Holmes, but I'm pretty sure that Holmes does wear one in at least one of the original illustrations, if I'm seeing it correctly, and I also read that due to the time the stories were written, it would have been likely for Holmes to wear one for travelling.

I definitely want a revolver on the inside of my arm, as part of the half sleeve, though. That's partly as a sort of tribute to Watson, because I feel very appreciative of his role (somewhat like R's role on our relationship; I am not a genius like Holmes, of course, but I do relate to a lot of his behaviours and outlooks, and the relationship between the two in the TV series especially echoes my relationship with R, and due to generally not having very good friendships I quite like that Watson likes Holmes and sees the good in him when others don't (this is even moreso in the programme, where Sherlock is called 'Freak' and looked down on by a lot of people for being different). Also, the revolver is an important 'prop' in the stories - Watson is often called on to bring his revolver along, ready for any trouble. So I want that, definitely, and possibly some more chem lab elements in it, like more bottles and smoke, and maybe a bunsen burner or something. Possibly a skull.

EVERYTHING would have been too much to put in on the first session, though, and if necessary I'll extend the tattoo to become a full sleeve, so that I can include even more things.

I have "The Return of Sherlock Holmes" starring the late Jeremy Brett on DVD and "Sherlock" season one also on DVD. I'll be getting season two from Amazon.com soon. Sherlock Holmes does translate well in the 21st century.

I'll be doing four 4'x8' plots at the United Way Community garden this year and maybe another plot at the 4H community garden elsewhere in town. Spent much of Saturday prepping and cleaning out the plots. I'll have pics up soon but here is a link to my Face Book album:

Got a letter we have to go to DS school bc he is going to be truant??

According to the schools own records, he's got 5 unexcused absences. According to state law, it takes 10 unexcused to be truant. They are threatening a fine of $10-$500 if he misses another day (4 weeks left).

I know he was out more last year. Frankly aside from the norovirus that he got in Cali his absences have been mostly due to the stress he deals with, bc of his Aspergers. Hes working so hard at being "just another kid" it literally makes him ill.

He only just realized the other day that not everybody sees the flicker in fluorescent lights (the really fast one not the occasional one). I didn't know he saw it until he complained his headaches (which he gets frequently, I just bought a 600 count bottle of I uprofen!) are bc of those lights..

Just another aggravation...

The therapist-type-bloke I see said today that he thinks it would be a good idea for me to have some cognitive tests. I've agreed to it, but I'm not sure what it will entail. He said that two sessions will be with another psychologist who will test me. I know that not every test will be the same, but I wondered if anyone else could give me an idea of what kind of tests there will be. I will probably ask him next time I see him, just to get a better idea of what is likely to happen and how the tests are carried out. I'm not sure why I didn't ask today (I was quite concerned with when I would see the other person and whether that would be in place of seeing him on those weeks and whether those sessions would count as 'our sessions' because he gives a number of sessions, then towards the end discusses whether we need to continue and how long for). But I thought I'd ask here as well. Also, it might be a bit different in the UK, and most of you are in the US, but any experiences or knowledge of these sorts of things would be helpful.

DH and I went out to dinner tonight for our anniversary, 18 years

Dinner was lovely, we were eating when a group of 2 dz middle aged women came in. They were ignorantly LOUD, literally screaming at times. Luckily we were about done.

I had this chicken caprese, it was delicious! I also had a long island ice tea, nice ;)

I went out to dinner tonight too. We split a Japanese combination dinner with ginger steak, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and grilled tuna with soup, salad, seaweed salad, and edamame.

It was good.

We also have been married for 18 years today and it is our daughter's 16th birthday.

We had a party for her at school today with an ice cream cake and we took her to the pool after school this afternoon.

I thought I was getting sick from undercooked pork Wednesday night. It's not that. Stomach isn't holding water :/. Will have to hit the ER tomorrow if dehydration continues. Night before last I took a couple bites of Ramen noodles for the salt, it made my lips burn!

I also have a sore throat, stuff neck, backache, fever (102). I alternate shivering freezing and sweating. Keeping DS quarantined in his room and at work. Dd is sick too.

Quite. In better news, I'm getting a full assessment of Asperger's/Autism/ ADHD & a separate one for any other psychological difficulties (like Alexithymia). I should also be getting some help into some sort of work, either voluntary or a placement, so things are finally getting somewhere! :P

Hope you're doing better now, Goddess.

That's good news Bruce!

Things here are quiet. It feels nice. I've been doing a lot of knitting lately and have really been getting into the more technical stitches. It's so relaxing. Very meditative. I found a bunch of old yarn in a box in my office, so now I'm like a kid in a candy store.

Thanks, adhoc & hope you enjoy your knitting! It's always difficult 'fighting' people who are (or seem to be) doing their best to help! It's still all good, since it equips me to better understand others who've had similar 'battles'. Whilst working on my infamous impatience is also useful & all the rest of it. There's little enough doubt I'll get diagnosed with ADHD & Alexithymia after those assessments. Dunno what other terms they might have for me but it should be interesting! :cool2:
