Yeah, our main sport is probably football (not American football, but football  ) and most schools have a rugby team and a netball team, as well; R's school was an all-girl's school so they had a hockey team but I'm pretty sure mine didn't (I went to a mixed school).

And obviously here letterman jackets are purely a fashion thing, and some people get their initials embroidered on or they're bought with numbers or letters already on them.

I'm so glad that someone knows what it is!

Benji- I guess since I hang out with mostly artists many of us have "crafty" inclinations and like to make our own costumes. I forget that not everyone does that, haha.

As for uniforms, we didn't have them in my public high school. As Goddess said most of the time they have them only in private schools here. I didn't realize that public schools are starting to instate uniforms as well, though. We did have dress codes, however. They were pretty laid back but they prohibited things like skirts of certain lengths, having vulgar language on t-shirts, and things like that. There was a time period where the dress code regulations became a bit discriminatory, however, as the Columbine shootings occurred while I was in high school. After that people were not allowed to wear black trenchcoats and some other similar goth attire. I hung out with a lot of goths so they were pretty upset and it unfortunately only reinforced the stigma against them from the rest of the school.

Aspen- I'm not familiar with Lloyd in Space, though now I think I should be, haha. That will be a really cute costume, even if people don't recognize the character. I like your idea of you and your husband going as Men in Black, very clever :)

Goddess- Is all that candy for Halloween already? I don't think I could save it for that long without breaking down and eating it myself :xBlush:

Sophist- I'm not totally sure what sports were popular at my schools, I wasn't exactly "tuned in" to that. I know football (American) was pretty important, it seemed like the lacrosse players got a lot of respect as well. I myself played a bit of recreational soccer, which was not connected to the school but an outside activity. I wasn't very good but it was fun.

I'm not very crafty at all as I'm a bit too lazy for anything like that and I get too frustrated over things not working out. R is, but doesn't often have the time when it comes to Halloween to make outfits rather than use things we already own or buy extra bits. Or she doesn't have the money or access to a decent sewing machine (hers doesn't work, I don't think, and she used to use the ones at her dad's place of work but now she can't really go there since he died and she feels awkward asking others for use of them). R's friend has some crafty friends, too, so it's a shame, really, as it would be great if people would get into it more. One of R's friends has gotten into cosplay since they stopped being as close, and again it's the kind of thing I'd probably find quite interesting myself but it seems like far too much effort. I don't have many friends and of the friends I do have I don't tend to have very much in common with them (or we share interest in solitary pursuits, like reading, rather than something that we can really share?).

I wonder what's wrong with her sewing machine, Benji?

Maybe it could be easily fixed?

BTW, I'm working on the three fingered gloves for my daughter's Lloyd in Space costume right now. She will have two fingers in each fingerhole, with her hand spread sort of like a Vulcan greeting.

She and I found a red and white striped shirt and some blue denim shorts and we bought green leggings that are close to Lloyd's skin color from Target. I bought three extra pairs to use for the hood and extra sleeves for the lower arms and the gloves. I bought her some green make-up and eye shadow, but she's not happy about the exact shade of green, so I may just cut some round eye holes in the mask and add some white vinyl for Lloyd's big toothy smile. It's very thin cotton knit, but I personally wouldn't want to wear a mask covering my nose and mouth. She says that she wants to look as much like Lloyd as possible, though.

I will probably just be having a quiet night in with my mom and brother. Lol, the local kids here seem to have finally gotten the message that we would prefer to be left alone...

Also hello to everyone, sorry, I haven't been active in an aeon...

Welcome back, ML. :)

This Halloween I don't know what I'll be doing, but we'll be celebrating the weekend before. Probably going to a haunted house with my partner, his daughter, and our friend, Andy.

I finally managed to get the place decorated! Our doxie adores pumpkins, she's a riot pushing them around the room!

Today was jacket weather which made me happy. I love fall ;)

DS just informed me tonight (with over a week to spare - shocking!) that he needs a costume and candy for Halloween. The band is inviting district sped kids in to ToT.

He has a mask and a shirt, one down. I have coupons. Done!

I finished my costume today. I'm not sure what's going on for Halloween but I think at least there will be something even if it is small.

I'll try to get some pictures later this week. The costume was pretty easy, mostly I just had to find the right things, which did take awhile. I altered the jacket a bit by inserting a zipper (first zipper installation, yay!) and shortening it, but other than that not much sewing this year.

Haha, congrats Sophist. I have a lot of practice doing that, being short and all :oldlol: . I forgot I was supposed to hem my yoga pants after I altered the jacket. Those have been sitting there waiting to be hemmed since August  .
