Procrastination...Or I how I learnt to sit and do nothing.

Isn't it ironic... As I trawled through Gestalt on my long overdue forum crawl looking for threads to create and others to reply to, that I had the idea for this thread a few days ago...And it's the last one I write in..

Procrastination is a big, and downright annoying, issue for me. There are things I know I should do but I can't seem to climb out of the rut and get them down... Well I can, but it does take some time, and alot of "Oh yeah, I should get that done".

When I went to school I put off homework till the last minute and even beyond that (one piece of maths homework was 4 weeks overdue at one stage!).. It seemed to be the way of things.

I even tend to put off personal hygiene (renaeden's loud agreement in my ear suddenly deafens me) for the more readily available enjoyment (as opposed to long time-taking chore) of the internet or Xbox...

Bottom line is, even if you see 'em coming, you're not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does. So what are we, helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come. You can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts. That's when you find out who you are. You'll see what I mean.

I almost always procrastinate with chores. Sometimes I procrastinate on other things, too, but I've actually gotten better at not putting things off. It just depends on my mood. Some weeks are horrible procrastination weeks. Others I actually get stuff done early.

I find I've gotten better with not procrastinating by simply breaking tasks down into smaller ones. Therefore I get more consistant reward from them and they require little enough energy that the task is actually doable.

Of course, the more I get stressed with life stuff, the more I tend to procrastinate. When things are calm, tasks seem to get done faster.

Procrastination is a big issue for me when it involves the phone or mailing stuff or handling personal matters. I think the mailing stuff is just an inconvenience and I would happily pay everything the second I get it if you could just pay it all online. But the phone - that is a serious issue I have. I still need to make an appointment for the osteogenesis imperfecta screening and I haven't even begun the work on my teeth yet because I have to call and find out what insurance they accept -- this is a month and a half later already.

I've managed to get over most of the procrastination in work-related tasks - but personal stuff just takes me forever to do.

Additionally, I'm not very organized, so I eventually lose the things that I need to take care of. Like checks needing to be deposited or invoices that need to be sent in.

I procrastinate for everything I don't really want to do but have to do... and very often don't bother if it's something I don't feel I HAVE to do.

Yes, I too am a fellow procrastinator. Except, with me it is even weirder (is that a word?) because I will also put off doing things that I really want to do; things that I find enjoyable. This makes me wonder; is it really procrastination or a resistance to change? even a simple change from what I am doing at the moment?

At any rate, this procrastination has cost me the A+ that I might have had and made many people angry at me for being late! It is something that I constantly have to work on.

I believe that part of it is not realizing how much time it takes to do a task, overscheduling, scheduling down to the last second and underestimating the power of Murphy's Law!
Right here, right now; this is where it's at.

I used to be the queen of procrastination. My dad used to say I'd never die because I just couldn't muster up the time or effort. LOL

At one point in my 20's my father made me a sign, it was a circle of wood and in the middle he'd painted the letters "TOIT".

This was his constant reminder to me that I'd do it when I got "a-round to it". Well, now I had a "round" toit, so what was my excuse!!!

Some days it helped. I had it at my desk at one point, and now that I think about it I don't know where it's gone.

I used to think I had a problem with procrastination...

And then I found the glories of Autistic Inertia, and now I've developed Arthritic fatigue also.

Some people have thought I have tremendos energy... but I cannot imagine why they would think that - I guess its just appearences.

Only thing is... where does my insomnia fit in?

Um, yes - lol. Did you notice the times of my postings - lol. Image
I have to get really tired before I can go to sleep (insomnia compounded by a very poorly shoulder at present) and am fatigued at the same time... one would imagine they would cancel each other out.

Ugh, having been an insomniac off and on for my entire life, I know what you mean.
