Favorite TV Shows?

Postby WonderingWoman » Mon Jan 31, 2011 9:05 pm

I was wondering about folk's TV watching habits.

I'm enjoying
'Glee'
'The Good Wife'
'The Big Bang Theory'
'Modern Family'
'South Park'
'How I met your Mother'
'What not to wear'

Also - I can't bear the TV to be on as backround noise at home. I find it almost impossible to consentrate when the box is on. DH loves to have it on as he get dressed in the AM, or any time, so he got himself some wireless headphones so he can work around the house with TV for distraction.

I've noticed that my DH almost never knows if he's seen a movie before or not, unless it's one of his favorites. Also, if he likes the music, then he likes the movie. We had a long standing dissagreement about letting DH14 watch 'Harold and Maude' - The music is great, but I thought ithe content was very innapropriate for a 10 year old.

Any observations on your TV watching habits?
Peace Out,
WW

Oh, I'm definitely a have-the-tv-on-in-the-background person. It's like having on music, only if I walk by I can glance at it too. :)

I'm American but my favorite shows all tend to be British comedy, like:

Keeping Up Appearances
Blackadder
Let Them Eat Cake
Fawlty Towers
As Time Goes By

Many many more. I own most of my favorite tv shows and I watch them over and over. I have a tv but still don't have the necessary aerial, so I just watch DVDs on a 40" screen.

The Munsters
Only Fools and Horses
The Young Ones
Misfits
House
Modern Family
The Middle
Big Bang Theory
The Simpsons
Scrubs, although I'm finally getting sick of the re-runs.

I also watch/like a lot of children's cartoons, although generally more 'retro' ones (from my childhood and some before) than more recent cartoons).

I tend to watch the same things over and over (for example, at the moment I'm watching The Munsters every night before bed, and I like Disney films and Hook, and Blues Brothers and some other films that I like to watch on a regular basis, sometimes every single day).

ETA: I tend to struggle to remember things like this when asked, so I'll probably add to either this list by editing this post or I'll just post again if I remember any other particular favourites.

My god! I completely forgot that I ordered Only Fools and Horses seasons 1-4 from Amazon.co.uk over a month ago and it still hasn't arrived. :(

Ever since the Christmas holidays, shipping from the UK has been horrible. My DVDs have probably been sitting in a box on some American dock for weeks now.

My very favorite show is Criminal Minds. DS and I have watched every single episode together - plus lots of reruns. I started bc they said there would be an autistic chatacter. Dr. Reid is a classic aspie (in the beginning they went overboard) with some savant-like traits. But he showed my son at a time in his life he really needed it that he could be anything he wanted. And the show is good!

DS also watches old Batman reruns with DH 4 nights a week.

I watch a lot of food network. I couldn't tell Natalie Porman from Natalie Wood, but I know all the chefs ;)

Also I like Hoarders (not pet one), but no "reality" shows - Bachelor, various versions of Dance something, etc. Not my taste.

DH watches wrestling. In the bedroom. Makes me nauseous...

I like him, and find him funny, which is probably a lucky thing as I'm apparently very much like him (well, I actually have two nicknames based on autistic seeming characters in shows I watch - Sheldon, and Brick).

I'm aware that his actual character is very over the top, and that the makers of the show specifically didn't diagnose him with anything (despite him being almost disgustingly stereotypically autistic) because that would be a huge responsibility not particularly suited to a comedy show, and I'm glad of that! But I really do like him as a character.

I used to like him but have found that the show has become all-Sheldon-all-the-time. Too much of a good thing is, well, too much.

I'm glad they're finally working on getting Leonard and Penny back together.

My current favorites are - some are brand new shows which I really like:

Fringe - oh my god - I love this show. I want to have its babies.
The Good Wife
Modern Family
Episodes
Bob's Burgers (despite being vegetarian - this show is hil.ar.i.ous!)
I've recently gotten into Being Human. So far I like the UK version much better than the US version.
Top Chef
Terriers - which looks like it was cancelled.

Old favorites are good sci fi shows - pretty much anything by Joss Whedon. Even Dollhouse grew on me eventually. Supernatural (not good this season, but Eric Kripke left, so couldn't expect much). Other shows in that genre. Interesting that I can't think of anything that isn't sci fi that I miss.

I find nowadays I stop watching a lot of serial/drama type shows. I attributed it to boredom/bad writing, but I think it has more to do with my inability to follow a storyline for a long time. I also don't learn characters quickly, so if there's too many I never catch on. That happened to me with Parenthood.

Hubby catches things much faster than I do. I've been watching Forensic Files forever, first time he saw it he recognized the narrator's voice from BK commercials LOL

Two newer shows I do watch regularly are Southland and Detroit 187.

I don't watch a lot of tv, mainly download shows from the internet, such as V and Stargate Universe.
Usually watch the nightly news and The 7PM Project witch is like a current issues show. I like Dave Hughes (sp) on it. A lot of people don't like him but I find him funny and very Australian.

I like sci fi, too. Firefly is probably my absolute favorite TV show. I am also a big fan of Buffy. I haven't seen all of Angel and didn't care much for Dollhouse but I still consider myself a Whedonite. I have also slowly been going through Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica (also, quite upset that Caprica was cancelled!) I also like Being Human (British version, the US one is so-so).

On TV I watch House and Bones, and also have been watching the NBC lineup because my friends have a TV night every thursday to watch this (Community, The Office, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, and some new show, Couples). I like Community and The Office the best of that group.

I use TV as background noise while I work a lot because I am at home alone most of the time. Sometimes it becomes too distracting and other times it keeps me from going off task. Lately I've been watching Star Trek: The Next Generation while I work.

I used to watch a lot of anime but I haven't been as interested in that lately. I am still really into Avatar: The Last Airbender (which is not technically anime as it is a US show) and Neon Genesis Evangelion, though. A few other favorites include Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei, and Revolutionary Girl Utena. Also, Hayao Miyazaki movies are amazing (but that is movies, not TV).

I guess I'm a big TV watcher, haha.

I like Supernatural, too, but still need to catch up. My family really love it and we have seasons one and two on boxset, so I was trying to watch them but got out of the habit (not sure why). I particularly like the Robert Johnson episode (the blues episode, I think it's called something like Hell Hounds, and references a Robert Johnson myth and his songs). I'm WAY behind, though, hoping that my family will buy more boxsets.

I've never even really attempted to watch Buffy, but it seems like everyone loves it (most people I know do)!

I liked Monk until it went off the air, so sometimes I can find reruns and watch them.

I also liked Medium, but it just went off the air.

I like House and it's still on.

I like Saturday Night Live.

I like Forensic Files and Mystery Diagnosis and other shows that are similar to those.

I got obsessed with 30 Rock. Forgot to mention that. Although I've not been watching it on tv. I watched seasons 1-4 on Netflix and then purchased them on DVD. I've watched a few episodes on Hulu but for the most part I'm just waiting for it to come onto DVD.

I've also recently gotten into a show called Downtown Abbey. It's somewhat like Upstairs Downstairs I'm told, although I haven't seen it. But I recently purchased the first season of DA and love it. Will have to wait quite some time for the second series to come out, they're only just filming it. Maggie Smith plays a role.
