September: What's happening in your world?

Postby adhocisadirtyword » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:07 am

For the first time since I became a member, I finally get to start this topic! W00T!!

Everybody in the other timezones are falling down on the job. :P

Anyway, things here are good. Just busy. Vennie is teething and is experiencing a lot of pain with it. :(

We're just along for the ride. He's growing so fast and keeping us on our toes.

My new roommate and her cat have moved in, and so slowly we are trying to get our cats to get along with each other. So far it isn't going particularly well, though at least they haven't come to blows yet. Hopefully they won't.

Things have been kind of hectic here, also, because two of my closest friends just broke up last week from a five year relationship. They have been living together for most of that time as well and are both now looking for new housing. It's kind of confusing to be around them because they seem to be ok with being around each other but then will make comments that seem to suggest the contrary on other occasions. I was worried about both of them, one more than the other, but fortunately they both seem to be taking it as well as it can be, probably because they both have said that their relationship sort of petered out a long time ago and has been "over" for awhile now.

My daughter just started college and I'm still working out the details of how to play the guitar. Even after 5 years of lessons. And six months of singing lessons........... :ugh: Some days I still sound like the mormon tubercular choir! :dunce:

Where is your daughter going to college, Ozy? Is it very far away from you and your wife or is it closer to home?

Yeah, that does sound confusing to be around them.

University of Southern Maine, and it's 42 miles from home. Far enough to live in the dorm, yet near enough that we can help if needed.

I had a haircut today, which was much needed. I hate it when my hair starts to feel too long (especially at the back - it gets to a point where I can't really do anything with it, if it's flat it looks too flat, if it's messy it's crazy!), but then when I've just had it cut it always sort of looks too short! By the time you've adjusted, it's grown again!

I bought some hair product stuff, though, as I've decided to put more effort into keeping my hair in good condition because I like to bleach it (to be able to put other colours over it, like green and blue and pink and...) and depending on how it's been cut and if I have the right kind of products for it to dry naturally quite straight I do sometimes have to blow dry and straighten the front a bit for me to feel happy with it (mostly a tactile thing as I don't like my hair feeling 'wrong') so I figure I should protect it and look after it a bit more if that's the case (I can't tell how much drying and straightening it will need until I've washed it after a cut and obviously as it grows it might need more drying and straightening, and if I need to get ready and rush out I have to dry it).

The college situation souds perfect Ozy! If it were up to me DS would go to the state university right here in town, but I do realize I'm a tiny piece of that decision!

How are the new digs Adhoc? Hope you are enjoying it.

Hubby has applied for jobs all over town, at every car dealer and various janitorial agencies. He's also applied for unemployment.

Maine is ahead of most states in DS, they have an office on the Portland Maine campus. And one to help students in her major, environmental studies, on her primary campus. From what I hear about Texas, they still run things decades behind everybody else.

In this case DS means "dear son". However our local university has an excellent disability services office. This university opened the Burkhart Center, which provides services for kids and adults on the spectrum.

If he lives at home, I could foresee our son not possibly needing services.

But otherwise, yes, TX is lightyears behind everyone else.

Ah, I mis-interpreted that, my apologies!

How short did you get it cut, Benji?

I think you were right to get the hair product stuff since you bleach your hair and with the other stuff you need to do to your hair to style it, it makes sense to keep it in good condition as much as possible.

Erm... as short as I usually get it cut. Too long tends to be when it starts to flick over my ears (instead of falling behind them easily) and starts to go in my eyes, and although I have it even shorter at the back, it seems like it grows quicker at the back for some reason (short back and sides sort of thing). It's just above my eyebrows.

Washed it this morning and put smoothing product in it and I didn't have to dry or straighten it. That's the way, uh huh, uh huh, I liiike it, uh huh, uh huh.

We still haven't moved yet. And, in fact, that seems to be on the backburner. With the holidays coming up though, we are wishing we had someone to share it with. But even with the new job and the better salary, finances aren't really allowing a move as of yet. Plus the baby makes everything difficult.

He's such an exhausting baby. I honestly can't express than enough. My husband is a full-time stay at home dad and can share some of my work. I have a full time job working from home. So he easily has 1.5 adults at home all the time watching him and we are still exhausted. He's like pure energy in flesh form.

But we do miss family and we wish they could see him grow up. I'm pretty frustrated with my mom though. After moving to the east coast, she's visited here 3 times - and 2 of those times were for my grandfather. She just saw us because it was convenient to do so while she was out here. And she works her whole trip around Vegas. This time, they are coming out for my grandfather's birthday and they are leaving the day before my brother's birthday
because they have a good deal in Vegas. Way to make everyone else in the family feel special, Mom. She'll miss my son's first birthday, my daughter's 12th birthday, and will also have Thanksgiving and Christmas with her husband's family instead of out here.

Anyway - sorry to complain so much. It's just a raw nerve. Guess I needed to get it out there.
