Taking Action

Postby Sophist on Wed Jul 08, 2009 8:36 pm

I'm copying off a thread at Intensity Squared, all about taking action.

So, what have you done today to improve your life/situation or to maintain the good things in it? Even the smallest of things, like taking a nap to maintain your personal health. :)

Today, I continued reading an article I've been reading for AGES now, getting a little further each time. Not quite sure why it's taking me so long, but at least I read little by little. It'll eventually get done.

Also, there's some issues arising for JNSQ and I at uni and I took a decisive action and called my godmother (who used to be Secretary to the Board at Washington University and is familiar with the uni settings) to ask her advice. She gave me her advice and she also had David, her husband, call me back a little bit later to give his advice as well. David is retired now but was Chair of the Social Work department at WashU and has dealt with our type of situation, from the Chair's perspective, before. It was excellent; he had some very clear direct advice. JNSQ will also be talking to him about it, hopefully this weekend. Going into this eyes wide open...

I went to a job interview (which went reasonably well - OK very well for me) and when I got home I found that I had a letter from another job asking to interview me, so I filled out the response form and returned it.

I took my daughter to the grocery store to buy the ingredients for a seafood pasta salad, so she could eat some now and take leftovers to school tomorrow and to the zoo Friday for lunch. Her class is going to the zoo for a field trip and she can take anything that won't need to be cooked or heated for lunch. I have a special salad bowl that has frozen gel sandwiched between double layers of plastic to keep her seafood pasta salad cold and safe.

Then I had her unload the dishwasher and I loaded it.

I've seen those, but for sandwiches. Do they work well?

We went mattress shopping today because we need a new bed for cosleeping with the baby. We have an old pillow-top now and it is breaking down.

And tomorrow, I've made a commitment to sleeping in so I can actually catch up on some sleep. I'm feeling exhausted the past few days.

OH recently got some good advice with regards to DLA and Freedom Pass, so we'll be getting more info, hopefully, and appealing (I get DLA, but filled in the forms quite badly and am on the lower rate).

OH also picked up some housing forms for me to have a look at and I'm considering at least ATTEMPTING to move out, because living here is doing me no good at all. But with my pets I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that that's probably not possible and I'm just kidding myself.

Those things didn't happen today, however. Today I've had a couple of little pots of fromage frais for breakfast, and I'm going to ensure I drink something before I leave for work - I'm always forgetting to drink and getting headaches because of it.

I dont think youre kidding yourself Benji. I think its perfectly possible, even with your pets. I hope you not only give them a look, but go a little further in the process. I wish you luck.

It didnt happen today, but I went on a job interview. I was in the top 3, but I still didnt get the job. I do have a plan to what to do next though. Hopefully I can get it done tomorrow, and report back here :)

They work well to keep the contents cold and I don't want to take a chance that her seafood pasta salad could spoil.

I have never seen one of those for sandwiches, but I did see a bigger salad bowl you could use for picnics or potlucks.

Yesterday I made revisions on the concept paper I'm writing and I should be able to finish them today.

Thanks, Danie.

Today, my mum wrote me a note (not a very nice one, and quite petty). So I replied. This might be a negative form of taking action if she dislikes what I said and decides to bring it up at some point to 'discuss' it, but so far all's well, and it was TAKING ACTION even if it doesn't turn out to be that good an idea.

Well action is action ;)

I hope you get some resolutions with your mother.

I didnt do what I wanted to do today :(( However, I did sit down and revamp my website using my personal HTML/CSS/Javascript. I havent done that in a while. I also think I revamped a old hobby, a much loved hobby.

We're going to finish cleaning the house this weekend and hopefully actually paint my daughter's bedroom.

Also - we decided on the crib bedding:

Just have to figure out what to paint now.

That's SO awesome, adhoc. When your son grows up, he'll show pictures to his friends to show how COOL of a nursery he had!

I haven't really done much this morning (only been awake for a half hour), aside from cleaning up the cat vomit.

But yesterday I went through two chapters of my Biochemistry book, which JNSQ got me to start reading ahead for my Biochem class which starts late August. I'm not "reading" per se but am browsing, reading bits here and there, and so far am finding it interesting. I figured it'd be better just to browse rather than read since I'll be reading it again anyways and right now I'm sure my retention will be quite low so I may as well focus on enjoying and learning some of the large points-- the ones I have half a chance remembering, heh. It seems to be working so far.

I also am continuing to read through that article I mentioned and am making more notes on that and updating my arborization model. After browsing the net a bit more, I'm going to go back to reading and note-taking.
