I only passed my college chemistry class because my dad had a heart attack mid-semester. It was a summer session class, so with my mom busy with dad the kids came to school with me (they hung out in the lounge watching MTV). My professor felt bad for me ;)

The next semester I had statistics. I said "so how are you feeling dad, because I'm losing ground fast in this class!"

Luckily my dad had a great sense of humor!

Actually, in statistics I got a third degree burn on my hand (reheating Thanksgiving leftovers in the microwave - I lifted the lid and the steam got me!)so I got to retake the test I failed after sitting in class going over it.

So illness and injury got me my BS! Hahaha

This is all too funny.
But: My alternator went on my car. I discovered that for hybrid cars they use a motor generator, rather than an alternator. the motor generator charges the battery more smoothly than the alternator does. I still have to rebuild or replace my alternator, it isn't a hybrid. That is my primarty b**** today.

Is it still covered under warranty?

I'm not too familiar with the terms of warranties on new cars. DH and I bought our last new car in Feb of 1994. Within a year the manufacturer had to take it back as we won a lemon law case.

We only buy cars with at least 100,000 miles on them. It works to our financial advantage that most people believe their cars will self-destruct at that point ;)

In reality, most problems with cars happen far sooner. By the time we buy them, the previous owner has replaced the water pump, alternator, and the exhaust.

The most I ever did to a car was replace the computer in a Durango I had bought when it was 3 years old for $5500, so I didn't feel the $600 was excessive (remember I have no monthly car payments either - we only buy in cash).

New cars are a money pit.

MY car is 18 years old. It still runs like a champ. I think this is the first time the alternator has been changed. it has 191,000 miles on it. It has a massive main oil seal leak, but I dump a quart in every 200 miles, so we are good. It just has to get me through one more year of school, and then its off to the scrap yard.

Ahhh, the hybrid thing had me thinking it was a newer car.

Those oil leaks are a hassle. 191k is some good miles ;) What kind of car is it?

Toyotas are known to run for a good long time, their motors are good.

Sorry about the move, that sucks anytime, but esp winter/holiday time!

Toyota dead. bearings axles just replaced. I think its a clutch. its going to the scrap yard. :( I don't do clutches in snow banks. that would suck. Plus, I've never done a clutch. IT could be the transmission. I did pick up a dodge for a good price, so I'm not carless. And the scrapyard will probebly give me 2 or 3 hundred for it, its solid metal. So sad. Fun times in that car!

Don't take anything less for it. They will part it out for lots more. My husband goes to junkyards all the time for parts.
