It is not a waste of time for me because my goal is to get a tan and I get tanned.

Um... that's not the shade I was talking about... however, I'll drop the matter now before I get deeper into trouble

Personally... I keep myself well covered in the sun, with high factor sun block on exposed parts... apart from my hands because I don't like stuff on my hands.

As for sun-bathing... I do not understand how people can find it relaxing, lying in the sun doing nothing... I personally find it incredibly dull, uncomfortable and a waste of time.
It is relaxing because it is a vacation I am supposed to be doing nothing. It is not dull to me because it feels good. It is not a waste of time because my goal is to relax and get a tan and I do. :D

I said... 'I personally...' I was speaking for myself. I do realise that the objective is to get a tan... once again, another thing I don't personally find particularly important to me

Doing nothing isn't relaxing for ME. I realise some people find doing nothing to be relaxing even though I cannot understand how they can stand it. I find being creative, relaxing, or reading, or watching a movie, or listening to complicated orchestral music... if I am doing nothing but laying exposed in the sunshine, I find the mental/creative inactivity personally uncomfortable... as well as the heat and brightness.

Holidays do not mean a person is 'supposed' to do nothing. Holiday means a time when somebody is free to do what they, or their loved ones, choose to do. For some people this means lying around roasting their skin in the sun, for others it means DIY, for others it means being creative... etc... etc... etc...

I have never understood the enjoyment of getting tanned... I tried it once for an hour, and it drove me nuts. I suppose it is related to fashion and, like many Autistics, I do not see the point in fashion either... so long as I am comfortable I am fine.

I'm not knocking what you do for leisure, Echo... I just don't personally see the point.

Noc, I've found JNSQ is very similar. He has a hard time relaxing by doing nothing. His relaxing is doing things he'd rather be doing, like reading, watching favorite tv programs, gardening, etc.

For me, the pinnacle of relaxing is lying still in a comfortable spot (bed, hammock, etc.) and just "being". But for him, I've noticed just "being" can be unnerving. He feels the need to be doing something.

Laying back and relaxing would be like meditation, I think.

I'm not someone who tries to lie about and get tanned either, and personally it would not work for me anyway (blaming my dad!), for I don't tan much. You see my dad was a red-head (although I never saw this as it had turned black over time (naturally)). Still I seemed to pick up some of this and my hair has always been a mix of colours - sandy brown, darker brown, a bit of blonde, auburn and orange (and now increasingly white!!!!).

So I don't tan - I just go red (then redder). For example, this weekend I was outside umpiring cricket, which was about 6 hours both days with yesterday being hot and cloudless. My head and neck is now red, and will stay red until it subsides (and when I say red I mean Ferrari scarlet red rather than slightly). OK - slight exaggeration but here is a pic of Mr Ugly the Human Tomato...

At least my "beard" demonstrates that I mean by the mix of hair colours, even if it is mainly ginger....

I knew you were not knocking me, Noctivagus. I knew you meant for yourself. I also never meant to imply I do nothing but tan. It is one week of a vacation I do this. I don't even vacation each year so I rarely get to take advantage of laying in the sun.

As for being creative, I like to paint and sketch. I am learning how to use watercolors. I prefer to paint in acrylic..that is why I switched to water colors. I like to challenge myself.

I do find clothing a hindrance and am quite often being very creative while painting in the nude.... :D

I find watercolors challenging too. I'm too prone to want to lay paints on thick. I.e., not the point of watercolors, heh.

Reading this thread has been very informative and entertaining! I have never been to a nudist beach or camp or have been skinny dipping except for that one time in a hot tub when I did'nt have a piar of shorts. I live alone, so I'm not worried about when I get out of the shower to go to my bedroom to get my clothes. I rarely have house guests, but when I do unless it's a lady friend take my clothes into the bathroom and get dressed in there after my shower. As far as sleeping in the nude, I only do this with the ocasional lady friend and never do this alone, but wear shorts in the warmer months and in the cooler monts I also wear a t-hirt and socks. PJs are uncomfortable for me depending on the fabric. I like cotton the best and polyester the least! Though I'm not extreemly modest, I feel very uncomfortable in public locker rooms and always have!!! I would not go in public nude. I don't even take my shirt off except when my weight is down because I'm self conscience about it. I do wear tank shirts in summer to show off my well built upper body! I have taken nude pictures of myself and set them to a few lady friends online, but have not made a habit of this. I guess there is a bit of exobisionist in my mixed with some modesty. It just depends on the circumstances. The strange thing is that I feel more comfortable with female doctors than male ones, but I'm not worried about it and there is nothing sexual about it. I guess I feel less threatened by female doctors and being nude in front of them for an exam. As far as the bread crums in my bed, that would bother me a lot wheather I had clotes on or not!!

I prefer watercolors. I can't paint very well with acrylics or oils (especially not oils, I just make a big mess. Can't tolerate the smell of them, anyway, so it works out). I can't seem to figure out how to make light colors without washing them out with white unless I'm just using the white of the paper (like you do with watercolor). I also like painting with washes and layers of color. Shimmery gradients are one of my favorite things haha. Apparently you get that effect from using layers of different semi-transparent colors over eachother, alternating between them.

Interesting thread. I don't have a problem with nudity and when alone, I usually will go nude after dropping dirty clothes into the laundry, take my shower and head to my closet to get dressed. Unless, it's mid winter....bbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Many years ago as a struggling student, I heard about people posing nude for art classes and making good money for a few hours work. I thought about it and then decided to give it a shot. Surprisingly, after a few seconds, I lost my self consciousness and enjoyed the poses that the art students wanted. It felt no different then disrobing before a doctor. I was skinny, but with good muscle definition and that's what they wanted. What was hard, was when I had to do the long poses (30-6o minutes) and I had to learn what poses worked and what didn't! :P

I can't sleep without my PJ's, and prefer to wear sweat clothes at home sans underwear. I like soft loose comfortable clothes. Even my pants and shirts for when I go to work (nurse) or other things more formal, has to be relaxed fit and soft to my skin.

Now that our daughter is away at college, I can do the occasional nude jaunt around the house when it's necessary. We live on a tree screened lot and have pretty good privacy. When swimming I do wear trunks. And the thought of getting a wasp sting in my private parts makes me cringe!!!
