December: What's happening in your world?

Postby SomethingElse on Wed Dec 01, 2010 11:26 pm

I've never got to do this before!!

Plans so far for early December include; possibly attending a gig on Thursday evening, having Friday off work (not sure why, but the school's closed - I'd like tomorrow to be a snow day but not holding out much hope), possibly Winter Wonderland on Saturday with punk friends, a relaxing Sunday, and then it's about three weeks and a bit until the xmas holidays I think.

And I suppose I'd best fit some present buying into that time!

I'm on a flight using their promotional free wifi, so it would be too hard to sticky this thread.

Let's see - there's a lot going on in my world lately. I recently received a promotion and am now the QA manager (or will be once the position is approved). Most of my team works from St. Paul, Minnesota, so I had to fly out there this week. This was the first time I've ever been away from my son overnight :( . I'm heading back home right now after being there for three days and then I'll need to head back out in 2 weeks. For the next 6 months I will be flying out here about every 3 weeks. It would be easier to move, but that seems like a semi-permanent solution to a temporary problem.

The flight itself is pretty painful. It's very loud, there was about a 30 minute long high-pitched sound, there's a lady behind me who keeps grabbing my chair and all I want to do is catch an hour of sleep.

The flight here was much better by comparison.

I am free from uni for the summer and I am very grateful this time as the semester was really hard and I got very average grades for my assignments. Don't know my overall grades yet and I am not sure I want to know.

Don't know if everyone knows or not but GA and I split up in July. Now I am living at my parents' place and it has been ok. Would like to have a place of my own again but my mum thinks I wouldn't do too well living on my own. Not yet at least anyway.

I have just started Christmas shopping and I do enjoy that. I mostly like wrapping presents, that is my favourite part.

Hi Renaeden! I'm glad to hear you were able to move in with your parents. It's probably best for now anyway.

I used to love wrapping, but lately it seems I never get around to it until late Christmas Eve when it;s a mad rush.

Things have been crazy around here lately. DS will turn 16 tomorrow! I remember when I could hold him in one arm, now I can't hold one of his arms  He bought himsef a new IPOD touch, 8gb.

Nice to see you back, Renaeden :)

Adhoc, how long is your flight? My roommate has been traveling a lot, lately, too, as she is here for school but her husband is in Virginia.

I have been working and spending time with friends. I think I am hopefully over the sinus infection but I am not sure. Things have been going on with one of my friends which I wrote about here in another thread, and I am trying to figure that all out now. Tonight I'm watching a movie at his house. Last night we had comedy TV night at another friend's house and he brought sheperd's pie which was very good. I should try to find something easy to cook one of these weeks as I haven't really made a dinner yet and most other people have.

This weekend I have a friend from GA visiting for several days, as well. We'll probably check out some art galleries and go to a big comic store and watch lots of Avatar: The Last Airbender while he's here, haha. I'm hoping to also go see Black Swan in the theater with him and some other friends.

I'm getting a glimpse into the future and it isn't pretty. Only DH and I are home. DD has gone to a friend's house and will be home in 30 mins. DS is out at the movies, a night out with a bunch of his friends, including the gf.

DS isn't coming home tonight, he's spending the night at one friend's house. I barely saw him ON his bday :( But he's very mature and responsible, and so I trust him. I did however obtain the friend's full name, address, phone, mom's name...I tried for driver's license number but that was apparently overkill.

What will I do with myself? DH is listening to Abba on the stereo ::gag:: and I'm, well, just sitting here :/ Someday, SOON, DS will only be visiting *me*. Ugh.

I don't have kids and don't imagine I ever will, but the empty nest transition sounds like a bloody hard one. :?

I think it will be especially hard with him. By the time my older two were heading out I had Ds at home, then DD. DS and I are also very close, I think bc from childhood he was different. His first language was his own, which only I understood. He leaned on me for help with coping skills, etc.

Of course DD will still be home, but she is much more independent from us. Ugh.

A couple of years ago I actually helped out wrapping presents for people at the shopping centre near where I live. Some presents were really difficult to wrap, large and odd-shaped.
