August: What's Up In Your World?

Postby goddessoflubbock on Sun Aug 01, 2010 9:03 am

Well it's August and I'm out $150 so that must mean it's the start of band season!
Band camp officially starts Monday, but DS is still nursing (and refusing medical attention for) a sore knee, so we'll see!

His boss misses him already. So much so he's offered to give DS an office key so he can work Saturdays! Boss doesn't work weekends. Nice to know he's so well-thought of and entrusted.

Its august.... Kate's birthday

I've recently found out that from Kate directly she wants to talk to me but her guardian won't let her. I am hoping it will be permissible to send her a birthday present care of her guardian.

Good thoughts being sent to DS' knee! :)

Yes, hopefully they will allow you to send her a birthday card.

Yesterday, i went to another town for a change and, as I was hungry but not wanting a big meal, I went into a baker's and bought 2 spicy vegetarian sausage rolls. I went outside, took one of the sausage rolls and bit into it. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, an enormous seagull swooped down, clouted me on the head with its wing and butted the sausage roll out of my hand with its beak. I was stunned and felt a bit stupid, but couldn't really do anything. The seagull had already started pecking at the roll, which had landed some distance away.

DS wore a bandage on his knee yesterday to band camp. And he fell. Can't get out of him whether it was related to his knee or not. But he hurt his back. :( Been a tough week for him. He's living off ibuprofen at the moment.

Camp starts at 8am - they march outside until 11:30 when they break for lunch. Back at 1:30 until 4:30 in the band hall for just playing.

Saturday he'll work 8am-3pm give or take. That'll get him about $150 a month take home. Now he'll have the money but not the time for a gf!

Are you sure you weren't in a Monty Python skit and weren't aware of it???

Aspen, I was near the coast.

Sophist, it felt like a set up. That bird definitely saw me coming. Maybe some other seagull was filming the whole thing with a stolen camera and you can see it now on you tube

Goddess, until recently, I thought camps meant staying away from home in tents, but DS just attends this band camp during the day? I realised because my niece, who lives in Bermuda, attended a ballet camp this summer, but she is only 5 and wasn't away from home. Anyway, I hope DS gets Sundays off to recover and chill out.

I should have been more clear on that Oscilor, thanks for pointing it out.

DS went to a sleep-away camp once, last summer. As anyone who was around here that week can tell you, I was a hot mess! LOL.

Band camp does take up pretty much the whole day tho. The first week the kids are all exhausted bc it is quite a workout. Marching is pretty strenuous, then DS carries a tuba which is 25-30 lbs.

I am making homemade chicken pot pie tomorrow. I asked DH to buy frozen, boxed pie crusts in the box. He came home with frozen crusts already formed as a pie. So I had to make homemade crust, and that kind of thing is not my forte. I'm going to use the frozen crusts for icebox lemon pie. Yum!

Replaced my power supply yesterday on the computer.... the fan was making a god awful noise that was causing me some stimuli issues.

I like the new power supply a lot better, makes no noise and is energy efficient!

Right now watching a storm approach chicago.... hoping it holds together to hit me.... I'm KC8OFR on the map on the right side.

Awesome weather map Zach!

Band camp is going smoothly this year - unless you count this morning when DS failed to set his alarm and I had to wake him up. Last night he and I were talking, and he remembers sign up last year when he texted me from the men's room in a panic bc it was such chaos. Of course this year he was large and in charge

While he can't always predict or stop his now rare meltdowns, he does now remember them and understands himself amazingly well. New situations are his toughest trigger, and the one I'm the least help with as I don't tolerate them well myself!

I woke up to a thunder storm this morning, all dark, a little bit of hail I think. It was kind of nice, the sound of the low thunder, small hail occasionally hitting the winder. Dark, dark, dark. When I woke I thought it was considerably earlier than it was because it looked so dark outside.
