Going to see some supported housing today! There was a dedicated organic produce shop here but it went out of business. There's some such stuff in the supermarkets but it'd be difficult to find much. I simply can't afford it, so stick to the standard stuff

The organic stuff is outrageously expensive. That's why I think I'll have a garden again next year.

My peaches came from Mexico, which isn't too far but still ugh.

Sophist - I love watermelon but it's been expensive this year.

I had a long debate with AT&T bc they raised my rates right after refusing to replace the modem they sold me that went bad :/. Finally I got my Internet down from $44 to $19.95 ;)

We have a garden and we supplement with organic food from Whole Foods. It is outrageously expensive, but I find Whole Foods is the only local store to run sales on organic anything and their prices are far cheaper than what I pay at the conventional stores for organic food. Plus the quality is better. I'm lucky to live where I do though, to have so many choices.

This year once our heat wave breaks (it looks like it's finally settling down - it should only be 96 today), I'm going to plant some broccoli and cauliflower for winter. My whole side yard will be taken up with these plants. It should be awesome.

The garden of the shared house is V overgrown & there'd not be much room to grow anything in it. Whilst I'm no gardener, anyway!

I really love this little place near me called Paul's Market. It's a tiny little store but they have awesome produce. One of my favorites are the red grapes which are so firm and plump, and they stay like that for quite some time.

I enjoy Trader Joe's too, although definitely Paul's for produce. TJ I love the eggs because it's the only place to get free range, and they've got awesome cheeses and a good selection of meats.

I love to freeze grapes then I use them as ice cubes in gingerale and cranberry juice ;)

I'd been considering planting a winter garden but we've had early, harsh winters the past two years.

Had to buy DS some new tshirts today. He's getting soo tall!

At least in my head, Texas is known for people being tall- is that true? Frozen grapes sounds interesting!

We just got fresh grapes off of our vines outside... too many in fact. I need to look into freezing them. Thanks goddess!

I can't seem to find anything at Trader Joe's that I like. I've tried so many times. Their produce isn't as good and is over priced. And the TJ's in my area doesn't have pasture-raised eggs. I can only seem to find those at Whole Foods (for about $8 per dozen!)

I wish I lived closer to Davis so I had better access to local farms.

Texas is known for general bigness (if you glance at a US map the trip from SE TExas to Illinois is the same as SE Texas to El Paso TX to the west!) but not necessarily height! Women here have big hair and Lubbock has a disproportionate number of tall people due to an excellent collegiate basketball program.

However the majority here are Latino/Hispanic and as an ethnic group tend to be short!

Last - we aren't Texans ;). We're from Philadelphia! My biodad is very tall.

Just found out DH has been drying seeds, he wants a garden too ;). It's scary how much we think alike.

Perhaps it was the case when most there where white? Is Philly known for tall people, then? :P

EIGHT DOLLARS PER DOZEN?!?!?!?!?!

Jesus, that's robbery!

One thing I find that's better at TJ's is the cheeses. On average they're cheaper than WM. I'm especially in love with Dubliner, and it's at least two dollars cheaper. --Actually, for the free range eggs and the Dubliner cheese, I'd go to Trader Joe's. I do agree about the produce though. You'd like Paul's Market. :D

Height is generally a genetic trait and tends to follow ethnic lines. I did watch a fascinating show on the history channel last month that showed how average height in the US has declined over the past two hundred years. If the NBA is any clue my guess is Africans have the tallest people. Or it could just be their tallest people also have genetically amazing basketball abilities. Hard to say.

The Olympics are a fascinating microcosm of human ability. The Chinese dominated diving. Yet despite there being tall, leggy Asian men you almost never see them in track and field :/.

We are experiencing a huge cool down right now, temps in the 80s and RAIN! They are actually easing off the water restrictions.

Yes, but remember that's pasture-raised and not free-range. If I got them from the farm, I could probably pay $5/dozen, but I can't find them anywhere else so I pay a premium for them.

One of them charges $8/dozen and they supplement with grains!! That's even more ridiculous.
