Been surfing the last 45 minutes and still can't find a damn thing online that gives an explanation. "Such-and-such number of people have a Blah-Blah tendon and Blah-Blah-Blah tendon which connect and therefore reduces independence of the first and second digits," etc.
I did, however, learn that tendons do tend to vary a bit, person to person, some tendons more than others.
My index finger does not seem to bend with my thumb at all. Maybe it's just a genetic variation since both you and your mother seem to have it?
