Hm.. just watched some series of clips from a particular episode on youtube here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tskjfuDRao
I feel like some of her mannerisms made sense but they went way too far with, as has been mentioned, the complete and utter lack of empathy.. well actually, it looks like they just went way to far with just about every aspect of Asperger's. As BeatZero said, straight out of the DSM. I felt watching this video that they were trying very hard to specifically hit every part of the diagnostic criteria (unusual eye-to-eye gaze, interrupting others in conversation, flattened affected, "special interests," "lack of empathy," complete and utter pedantry, etc).
Personally I still find the characters of Temperance Brennan and Zack Addy on "Bones" to be some of the better portrayals of Asperger's on TV. Their Asperger's Syndrome is "unannounced" on the show but I've read an interview that mentioned Asperger's was indeed part of the consideration in building Brennan's character and it was also suggested that Zack could likely also have AS.
Unfortunately during the writing strike there was a major blow taken to Zack's character, it was just... bad writing, and he is rarely on the show anymore. Too bad, because I hated what they did with his character but before that he was my favorite.
