Rainfall Causes Autism?!?

Postby Charlie on Wed Nov 05, 2008 12:52 am

It gives a whole new meaning to the term "Rain Man"....

Increased rainfall, or something linked to it, may be connected to the development of autism, scientists say.

The theory is based on child health and weather records from three US states, but has been given an icy reception by UK experts.

The US study found autism rates were higher among children whose states experienced higher rainfall in their first three years.

The work appears in Archives of Pediatrics (sic) and Adolescent Medicine...... continues on link

What happened to the TV Hypothesis of Autism?

Seriously though, I don't doubt the research. Just as long as everybody knows the difference between correlation and causation.

I think this is going to become a bit like the "everything causes cancer" thing - everything causes autism. Unfortunately, when "everything" is seen to cause something, no one knows which research to believe, and gives up trying to help keep themselves safe, because it becomes very confusing if not impossible.

BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!! And it'll also prevent abortion, so no more worries about Pro-Choice or Pro-Life! --Why didn't anyone think of this before?

It could work! Of course I have the feeling that most life on earth would cease to exist without rainfall... but as long as you have your hair back, it's well worth the risk, right? ;)

Do you think we should take the risk so your dad can have his hair back?

I thought that was the only type of Weather to be had in Australia

I do not think I've ever seen it rain on 'Neighbours' or 'Home and Away'. This might of course be because I avoid those two shows like the plague

Doesn't it snow constantly on Neighbours and Home and Away. Or is that me just having a bad analogue signal for Channel 5. (I steer clear of soap operas as well)

As I remember it on those two shows, if it rains it is a major catastrophe and people die.

Heatwaves are when the temperature is above 40C for about a week or something.
