You ought to have informed him that if he really knew about manners... it is the height of ill manners to correct somebody else's manners. Besides you could have turned to him and said, 'Why aren't you holding the door for me and the other girls then?'

Don't feel humiliated because of such errors, Danie (that man sounded particularly ignorant). I've been mistaken for a girl by bus drivers before now due to my hair - it tends to get curly when it grows - this, even though I'm not a feminine looking person at all. Its the person making the error that is making the error, not you. The faux pas is theirs.

Like Sophist, when I was younger (before I hit puberty) I looked a lot older than I was. When I was 12 people said I looked 16. But now that I am an adult (I'm 21) people say I look 15!! I was at a Christian Baptist church of my grandfathers (I cant say no to him), and one woman said "what grade you in?" and I replied "freshman", you know... as in freshman in college. And she says, "oh I just loved High School! Just wait until youre a senior!". I didnt say anything. I just nodded. As well, especially when I cut my hair really short (which I always end up doing), I look like a little boy. At that same church when I was leaving (different time), a man said "young man!! hold that door for those ladies!!!". I was upset as well as humiliated.

Thankfully I've never been humiliated by an old Baptist git ;) but yeah, definitely feel ya there, Danie.

Baptists get hung up on the most ridiculous things. (I should know; I am one; or used to be)

People say I look young for my age, but it depends on whether I've gotten enough sleep. I will say, though, that as the years drag on, I am starting to look quite middle-aged.

I took this on my webcam. Not sure it's an accurate representation. I don't usually look that nice.

You seem to have a similar resemblance to my sister (and she is 31), but according to that picture I would even take off a couple more years and go late 20s...

Well, it is a particularly good picture. I should post a first-thing-in-the-morning photo. Or a late-nighter one. (of course, that isn't really when I want to be photographed!) They might be a more accurate representation. I am usually guessed for low to mid-thirties, so not too much off base.

Hmm, well if that's what 41 should look like, I completely get why I keep getting offered the seniors special. Ugh. Even with a dye job and makeup I can't pull off 46 :(

I may have mentioned this before now, but I seem to get the people think I am a lot older than I am. within the last year or two playing indoor cricket one of those on my team made a comment about him not being the oldest on the team, so I enquires who he felt was older than him (as most of the others were in late teens). He said me! He is in his mid/late 30s, and I was 25/26.

Then one time I was asked by someone why I didn't play for the Masters team in various competitions, bearing in mind that you need to be 35 or over to play in the Masters. :embarrassed: They still would not accept my age as mid-twenties, until I decided to pull out my driving licence, and they still did not want to be convinced then.... :thinker:

Funny! Sometimes people can assume your age based on more than appearances. Perhaps you act like you're more mature than the others! Also, your skills may be better and that could be why they asked why you don't play in the higher league. (hard to tell from your photo; too far away!) Also, there is the way that you move. Some people have a youthful aura (sp?) because they have a spring in their step or a more mature walk (purposeful or geriatric? *kidding*). Or it could be your attitude. So, I guess various contributing factors.

Sophist, how did you do that to my picture???
